Cookie policy

What Hire Counter stores on your device — nothing until you use a feature that needs it, like live chat — and how that would change.

Draft for legal review. This document hasn’t been reviewed by a solicitor yet and will change before launch. Items in square brackets are still to be confirmed.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website saves on your device. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do the same job. The law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) says a site must ask your consent before using any that aren’t strictly necessary for a service you’ve asked for.

2. What we use today

Hire Counter doesn’t currently set any cookies or similar technologies that need your consent. We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t let third parties track you across our site.

Your searches (machine, place and dates) are kept in the page address, not in a cookie.

3. Live chat

Our live chat is provided by Crisp. Nothing from Crisp loads until you tap “Chat with us”. When you do, Crisp sets cookies and local storage to keep your conversation going as you move around the site and if you come back later. They’re strictly necessary for the chat you’ve asked for, so they don’t need separate consent. Crisp explains them in its own cookie policy at crisp.chat.

4. Payments

From launch, card payments and deposit holds are handled by Stripe. When you reach the payment step, Stripe sets cookies that are strictly necessary to process the payment securely and prevent fraud. Stripe explains these in its own cookie policy at stripe.com.

5. If this changes

If we add anything that isn’t strictly necessary — for example, analytics to understand how the site is used — we’ll ask for your consent first, let you change your mind at any time, and list each cookie here with who sets it, what it’s for and how long it lasts.

6. Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site, such as payment, from working.
